Construction has begun on the Inauguration Platform on the West Front of the Capitol Building. You can watch the construction progress with regularly updated photos, and even see a video of the first nail driven. All of this is available on the web site of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) which operates the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC).
