Kerry Says Obama Key To Copenhagen Global Accord

Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.), Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee and lead author of the Senate’s comprehensive pollution reduction and energy independence legislation, today said that the global accord reached at the United Nations climate summit in Copenhagen, Denmark will drive the U.S. to pass climate change legislation early next year.
“This can be a catalyzing moment,” said Sen. Kerry. “President Obama’s hands-on engagement broke through the bickering and sets the stage for a final deal and for Senate passage this spring of major legislation at home. It’s a powerful signal to see President Obama, Premier Wen, Prime Minister Singh, and President Zuma agree on a meeting of the minds. These are the four horsemen of a climate change solution. With this in hand, we can work to pass domestic legislation early next year to bring us across the finish line.”
